This Week in Room 8 (1/8 to 1/12)

ELA:
This week we take a deeper look at finding specific examples in the text that support our answer. We will be reading and answering questions by going back and highlighting the answer in the specific color for the given question.

Other skills that we will work on this week include the following:
  • Introduction to idioms
  • Using context clues to determine meaning of unknown word in a given text
  • Dropping the final e before adding -ed or -ing
  • Going back in our writing and adding adjectives to create more detailed sentences
  • Verb agreement with is/are/was/were

MATH:

This week we will be working on the following skills:
  • Continued practice on place value (hundreds, tens, ones and beyond)
  • Understanding the difference between finding the digit and the value of the underlined digit in numbers to 120 and beyond
  • Using our place value knowledge to read and write the number given in a specific word sentence. Example- four tens, seven ones, and eight hundreds = 841
  • Strategies for solving word problems and showing evidence for how we solved the problems

SCIENCE:
We will continue learning more about light and shadows.

Words Their Way:
Your child will be introduced to a new sort this week based on his/her developmental spelling. Please keep an eye out for your child's sort so the spelling pattern can be reinforced at home.
