Last Week in Pictures!

The #cacioppoleaders are working on fluency and expression.
The first time we read the passage, we are reading for speed.
The second time through, we are getting our storytelling voices activated.

Last week we discovered that certain words describe our senses and other words can describe emotions. We became detectives going back in the text to find words in the two different categories.

What is a 3rd alternative? It is when you take two ideas and put them together
to make an even better idea!

We connected our learning to a story about pizza.
We are working on restating the question in our response, and following descriptive words as we color our pizzas.

What collection do you like best?
First graders are learning how to write opinion papers by providing many reasons why something is the best.

We love playing games.
In this picture, we are practicing telling time.

We are working on identifying place value in numbers and strategy to have many blocks of our color in a row. This game went home last week.

We explored a new feature on Khan Academy... the Grammar section!
This gives us a chance to practice identifying nouns, common and proper nouns, singular and plural nouns, concrete and abstract nouns, and more! Once we make our way through nouns, we get to move on to verbs. Feel free to check it out and work on this at home!

We love exploring shadows!
We made our own shadows with our buddy.
Do you see the butterfly?

We wrote our reflection on shadows.
If you ever see a partial post on Seesaw, ask your child what he/she was working on.
Sometimes we run out of time and cannot finish our typing!

We enjoyed reading and responding to "Hey, Little Ant."
Students wrote an opinion paper on whether or not the boy should squish the ant.
Great work, Cacioppo Crew!

Keep bringing in your stories from home!
We love hearing stories from our friends.

3rd Grade Music/Talent Show!

Our Leader shared his adventures with Purple Hoser!

He also read a funny book to the class!

He also shared his talent with the class.

We LOVE buddy reading!
We are working on fluency, expression, and discovering new books when we read with our friends.

We did it!
Our class read 1,100 books.
We had to set up a new goal:
1,500 books on Epic by February 27th.
Can we do it?

We enjoyed having a Guest Reader visit.

We are working on responding to the books that we read.
If we are reading non-fiction, we are working on writing 3 facts and adding our favorite part.
If we are reading fiction, we are writing the beginning, middle, and end, as well as our favorite part.
Good readers do more than read the words, they think about what they are reading!

Last Week in Pictures

During our Lead Time, we focused on the importance of being honest.
Leaders tell the truth so others can trust them.
We met with our accountability partners to talk about challenges with being honest.
We will be checking back at the end of the week to see if we are reaching our goals.

We watched the story "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" and discussed why it is so important to always tell the truth.

Good Readers think about what they are reading.
We are working on going back in the text to find the answer.
When we write down our response, we are working on restating the question in our written response.

The 3rd Graders led the Leadership Assembly!

Congratulations to our classroom leaders for the month!

In Science, we are discovering how light creates shadows.
We are working on different challenges to make the shadows large/small and projected onto different areas (like the ceiling).

We started our Friday off with a guest reader.
We love listening to stories!

Friends are sharing stories that they write at home.
Keep up the great work!

We checked in with our accountability partner to see how we are doing with being honest.
We shared situations where we had to decide to tell the truth.

Fireman Mike came in for his 2nd session on Fire Safety.
Congrats to everyone that turned in their homework assignment.
Please make sure to keep practicing your address so you are prepared in case of an emergency.

We acted out a scenario where we had to provide information in case of an emergency.
Way to rock your address, #1!

Fireman Mike had to step away. When he came back, we were in the middle of a Go Noodle.
It is always great to get our extra energy out!

We learned about what to do if we see matches, lighters, sparklers, and other dangers...
Do not touch and go tell an adult!

During our Class Meeting, students take turns sharing a "put up" for another classmate.
When we say nice things to others, it is a Win-Win!
