Our Leader shared her adventures with Purple Hoser!
We love to read with a buddy.
While we read out loud, we are working on phrasing and reading with expression.
We have been busy working on our reading skills with Reading Eggs!
For Words Their Way, we are learning about different spelling patterns and making observations about the different sounds that can be made with spellings.
After our Writer's Workshop, we take time to celebrate our writing
accomplishments with a buddy (or two).
For our Friendship Unit, we read Enemy Pie and Ivy and Bean.
One of our big first grade skills is being able to compare and contrast stories on a similar topic.
Today, we divided our class in half.
One half wrote down ideas on how the two books were alike.
The second half wrote down ideas on how the books were different.
We did a fantastic job with this important skill!
We visited the 2nd Grade Wax Museum.
The second grade students researched important citizens.
When we walked down, they were standing like statues.
We would go up, touch their iPad, and they would come to life!
We learned a lot about many important people!
We continue to work on building our understanding for numbers up to 120 and beyond!
This skill reinforced counting back and counting on.
We also practiced counting tallies.
We discovered that we need to know how to count by 5s!
Check to see if your child has this skill down pat while getting ready for school this week!
We worked on determining missing numbers by filling out an "Apple Scoot" sheet.
Our 5th Grade Buddy project had us focusing on "DNA."
We shared our
D- dreams
N- needs
A- abilities
with our 5th grade buddies.
We learned more about our 5th grade friend.
Some friends found how they are connected and have similar dreams, needs, and abilities.
Kipling Elementary received the honor of being named a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School.
I am thankful that I had the opportunity to work on the application process last spring with many other teachers and staff.
I am thankful to be at a school that is so passionate for the success of their students, parents, community, and staff!
We are building our vocabulary by learning about synonyms and antonyms.
We learned that we can make our writing more exciting by including juicy adjectives in our work instead of just saying "big" or "hot."
#EpicPals
We collaborated with students outside of Deerfield for a reading project!
We chose a book to read on Epic!
Then, we scanned a QR code to reach a Padlet where we could type down our response to a question about the text. We also shared our favorite part of the story.
We were able to see responses of other students from Wisconsin, Texas, and beyond!
During our #robotics time, we chose to #gamify our classroom by solving math problems with Dash at the rug!
We synergized with our classmates to complete coding challenges with "Daisy the Dinosaur."
We tried to tackle the challenge of creating a robot with Cubelets that can move on its own and stop on its own before crashing into a book.
We had a terrific guest reader come to read!
Our playground was a sea of blue on Friday to celebrate our
school accomplishment for being named a National Blue Ribbon school!
We learned how to use ThingLink.
In our activity, students created "hot spots" where they would label the nouns in the picture.
We know the difference between common and proper nouns.
Some friends chose to add a few specific nouns to the picture as well.
After the ThingLink is created, you can click on the red dot and the label will appear!
We had another Guest Reader come and visit today!
Thank you, Mrs. Sutic!
We loved hearing your monkey impersonation!
Be sure to ask your child about it!
We learned how to give positive feedback to other students on Seesaw.
We enjoyed going through and commenting on all of the amazing work on Seesaw!
Enjoy your day!
