We worked on our August and September Reflection Writing.
In our writing, we are working on choosing to write about one small moment. We are trying to give MANY details for that small moment. It is amazing how far we have come since the start of the school year with our writing!
We LOVE turn and talks!
We are working on communicating our ideas for others to hear, showing active listening to our friends, and following directions given by the teacher (conversations staying on topic).
Buddy Project:
We worked with a buddy to practice identifying Main Idea and Key Details.
We are participating in the #globalreadaloud
This week we are asking and answering questions from Mem Fox's book Koala Lou.
Click on the picture below to enjoy this story.
We took a closer look at the characters in the story:
Koala Lou, Mom, and Koala Klaws.
We worked with a buddy to read text about "seeds."
We had to problem solve to answer 3- facts, 2- questions, and 1- opinion.
We will be working more in the future on understanding the difference between fact and opinion.
Why do leaves change color?
Ask your child or check out his/her Seesaw post from Wednesday!
Our key words were chlorophyll and nutrients.
We mixed up with all of the other first grade classrooms for our "Noun Town" activity.
Be sure to check out the #kip109 hashtag on Twitter to see what the other first grade teachers posted from their rooms.
Students synergized to create and label nouns for their part of town.
We had a park, downtown, and neighborhood.
"neighborhood"
"park"
"downtown"
Our @globalmathtask challenge #gmttc1
had us counting tallies and determining the number that comes before and after the given number.
We are still working on counting by 5s and understanding how to read tally marks.
Our super challenge had the class going!
The room was a buzz as the students tried to figure out the answers.
Please ZOOM in to check out the challenge!
We took turns reading our books from Guided Reading with a buddy.
The student that was reading was the "teacher" and could ask the other students questions about the text. Everyone did a fantastic job following along and asking/answering questions!
Our Greek and Latin roots include the following
uni- means 1
tri- means 3
vac/vaca- means to empty
form- means to shape
Today we chose the #gamify approach to practicing our roots.
We took turns programming Dash to go to the correct root or definition with our buddy.
One student may say, "What root means to shape?" The other student would say "form" and program Dash to land on form.
We also learned about a new robot called "Ozobots."
Check out the video here.
We learned that the robot follows the code that we create on paper.
We can get Ozobots to change color, turn around, and many other activities!
We just need black, green, blue, and red markers!
