Last Week in Pictures!

We learned that leaders help others lead!

We worked on reading following the descriptions given in a poem called
"Green Giant" by Jack Prelutsky.
We used the app called Educreations to design our giant.
Afterwards, we read our poem to our families on Seesaw!

We used a new app called Discovery Education to watch videos on sound.

Our 5th grade buddies from Mrs. Jorjorian's class taught us about big rocks and small rocks.
We learned that our big rocks are what's most important in our life. We have to take time to get our big rocks taken care of before we have time for the little rocks that are less important.

We had a friend from 4th grade read to the class for a reward from lunch.
It is always great to have old friends come back to visit!

We love hearing stories from our classmates!

One of our math challenges was to compose shapes using different pattern blocks.
Be sure to check out your child's Pic Collage on Seesaw.

We used our creativity to show what we know about different 2D shapes.
We had to pick a shape and write down different attributes like number of sides, types of lines, and length of the sides. We then made a video on Telestory, Toontastic, or Seesaw to share what we know!

We filled our Put Up Jar!
We chose to watch a movie here at school!

Friends synergized after buddy reading to creatively share what book they read, a summary of the book, and their favorite parts. It was great watching the class work together, problem solve, and CREATE!

Last Week in Pictures (2/12 to 2/16)

Our compliment bags were a HUGE hit for Valentine's Day.
It was a win-win.
We felt good writing special compliment messages to our friends!
It always feels good to hear and read what you do well!

We busted out the paint to learn more about symmetry!
We learned that symmetry happens when one side is exactly like the opposite side.

There is a CHANCE this might be a new favorite game for the class!
Chance was a huge hit as we worked on understanding place value location
and reading large numbers.

Thankful for a purchase I made over the summer!
We loved exploring the shape connectors.
We made different 2D and 3D shapes.

We have been learning about contractions.
Students went on a "scoot" around the classroom.
We had to determine either the two words that make the given contraction
or the contraction for the two given words.

How does sound travel?
We know that vibrations bring the sound to our ears.
We also learned that our fingers can stop the vibration/sound.
I wish I had video of the moment students heard the vibrations of the tuning fork through the yarn!

Happy Valentine's Day!

We started our day with some 4th grade visitors from the Innovation Committee.
They were asking the students what we like at Kipling and what we would like for the future.

We learned how to "Sharpen the Brain" by doing these three steps: focus, connect, and repeat.
We synergized to try to memorize a poem about the number of days in the months of the year.
It was a different spin on a poem that I taught the kids earlier this year.
The class did a great job when we sang the poem at the end of the session!
Way to sharpen your brain!

We worked on cards for our loved ones for Valentine's Day.

We passed out valentines to our classmates.

We worked on our cheer cards for patients in a local hospital.
It was a win-win to make someone else's day a little brighter!

Mrs. Friedlander, Mrs. Johnson, and Mrs. Comitor are with me as we present our cards to Ms. Elaine Van Dusen from NorthShore University Health Systems.

We played "Win, Lose, or Draw."
We have so many amazing artists and guessers in room 8.

Another puzzle in the books!
We have been busy working on different puzzles during indoor morning recess.

We were exploring different shapes as we design with pattern blocks.

We read "Grandfather Tang's Story" as a class.
Students then used the books and pattern blocks to recreate the different animals from the story.

Our Guest Reader came in to read to the class.
We love to hear stories!

Our leader of the week is sharing his talent... Baby Freeze!
