ELA
This week we continue to read about different leaders and good citizens. We are learning how to compare and contrast characters and their experiences in different texts. We will also be working on the following skills:
Phonics:
- long u (oo, eu, u_e, ew, u)
- long o (oe, oa, ow)
- long i (igh, y, ie)
- suffixes (-ful and -ly)
Grammar:
We will continue to work on gaining a better understanding of adjectives and how to incorporate more adjectives in our writing.

Reading:
We will be reading non-fiction text as we continue reading about strong leaders. We will identify and make connections of characteristics of strong leaders.
Writing:
We are beginning our new unit in writing. For the next several weeks, students will be working on writing realistic fiction. This week we will focus on how fiction writers do a lot of pretending. They image a pretend character, describe who they are, where they are, and how to get their character in and out of trouble!
Math:
Students will be working on the following skills:
- comparing and contrasting 2D shapes
- identifying and comparing 3D shapes
- continued work and practice on place value, graphing, and word problems
Science:
We will continue to work with light and sound. We will see if we can send secret messages using only light!
Leader in Me:
We will continue to prepare for our Kindness Assembly for March. In addition, we will continue to learn more about Habit 8 (finding our voice)
