1st Grade Buddy Reading, Guest Reader, Coding, Robotics, and More!

We mixed up all of first grade for buddy reading!
Students got to learn more about other students in our school.
    Ask your child about it!

We are working on putting random numbers in order from least to greatest.

We are having fun making our words with pipe cleaner to reinforce spelling patterns.

Our leader of the week is sharing pictures from home.
We like to learn more about our classmates.

Our leader is reading a book from home to the class!

We are practicing reading with expression and good phrasing.
Our goal... to not sound like a robot!

We are retelling our stories that we read with Mrs. C.
What happened in the beginning, middle, and end?

Friends got to explore Dash the robot!
We learned how to program the robot change color, speak, and move at different speeds!

Friends synergized with Cubelets. Many are working on the challenge of getting Cubelets to move without any help from our hands.

Our leader of the week is sharing her adventures with our class pet, Purple Hoser!

    We celebrated Dot Day!
We learned the importance of being brave, perseverance, and creativity!

Mrs. Buch came to Room 8 to read some poems from Shel Silverstein.

We explored a new coding app called Lightbot!
Great problem solving going on in here.

Our new leader of the week shared her poster with the class.

For Leader in Me, we learned about actions and consequences.
We learned that we can change our actions.
We discussed with a partner different actions and possible outcomes.

Our leader is sharing pictures from home.

We worked on our first writing sample for our names.
I can't wait to see how we improve with our handwriting throughout the year.
Can you spell your first, middle, and last name?

We explored a new math activity called "Khan Academy Mappers."
We are learning about "just right fits" so we can continue to grow our brains.

We are playing a fun game where we have to determine what comes before and after.
This can get tricky when we pull the number 60 and have to find 59.

    Pictures from Last Week!

We completed our first Global Math Twitter Task Challenge (#gmttc1).
We are learning how to explain our thinking when solving math problems.

We synergized with a buddy to determine if a group of words can be categorized
as a sentence or not a sentence.
We learned that sentences begin with capital letters, are a complete thought, words are in the correct order, and end with punctuation.

We learned how to use a new app called Pic Collage.
This app allows us to group pictures together on one sheet for us to post in Seesaw.
Did I mention that we can change the background, add text and drawings, and add stickers?!

We have been working on building our endurance with writing many sentences.
During our "work on writing" time during Daily 5, we have been completing stories and adding plenty of details. I can't wait to see how our writing grows this year!

We discovered a new app called Epic!
Epic generates a free collection of books for students to choose from based on student interests.

We are learning how to buddy read.
    "Elbow, Elbow, Knee to Knee...
I read to you. You read to me.
    Elbow, elbow, knee to knee...
Book in the middle so we both can see!"

Today we explored a new app called "Nearpod."
Students worked with a buddy to learn about living and non-living things.
We also learned about man-made and natural items in the world around us.

    We love Kahoot!
Today we did a check in for number sense to 120.
Can you tell what number comes BEFORE or AFTER a given number?
This is a great skill to practice at home while getting ready for bed,
preparing breakfast, or in the car!

We are preparing for our first Reader's Theatre!
In our practice, we are learning how to read with expression so it sounds like a conversation, not like a robot!

We held our second Class Meeting.
Our Class Meetings are held on Friday after lunch.
This is a chance to share a compliment for something great that someone did for you.

    Pictures from Yesterday (Monday):

Our Leader of the Week took home our class pet, Purple Hoser!
We can't wait to hear about the adventures our friend has with Purple Hoser on Thursday!

Our Leader is sharing her "Read About Me" poster so we can learn more about her!

We used a new app called Tenmarks for a check in on math skills we have been working on.

We are learning how to sequence random numbers from least to greatest.
We really have to think when we are not starting at zero and there are missing numbers!
